Chiropractor Carmel Valley Holistic Health Care

At our Carmel Valley Chiropractic office, we follow the practice of healing the body holistically—and it begins with the spine.

Our chiropractors evaluate your physical health on three important levels: muscle, bone, and nerve. We recognize that the human body functions as one complete unit; bones give you support, muscles provide strength, and nerves carry messages telling your brain when something feels good and when it hurts. Your structure, movement, strength, and vitality all depend on a healthy spine.

Good health is something we take for granted—until we no longer have it. Investing in proper spinal care now will benefit you both now and in the future.

Get Healthy. Stay Healthy. Be Healthy.

“The preservation of health is easier than the cure of disease.” B.J. Palmer

If you’re tired of popping pills to mask annoying symptoms, maybe it’s time to visit a chiropractor and let your body heal from the source of your sickness. Physical healing lasts longer than a few hours of prescribed relief.

Routine chiropractic visits keep your body adjusted correctly so the whole body can work at its best. Invest in your health now, and your future self will thank you.

“Medicine is about disease and what makes people die. Chiropractic is about life and what makes people live.” – B.J. Palmer

When the Four Humors Weren’t Funny
Our understanding of the human body has improved significantly in the last century. Even in the early 1900s, modern doctors had peculiar ideas for curing what ailed you. Most treatments focused on the “four humors” of the body: black bile, yellow bile, phlegm, and blood. If you were sick, it was believed that something was wrong in the balance of these four humors, and it was the doctor’s job to intervene.

This method was known as heroic medicine, which was based on the theory that the sicker you were, the worse procedures your doctor could put you through. These “heroic” practitioners would drain your veins, empty your bowels, induce vomiting, sweat you out—whatever they thought would be most effective—and patients were often poisoned to death in the process. Extreme doctors even tried to drain up to 80% of their patient’s blood! Needless to say, you would have to be intensely miserable and desperate to resort to such invasive, painful treatments. Even then, your survival was not guaranteed.

The New Heroes
In that archaic (and often hazardous) world of medical practice, a Canadian-born physician living in the Mississippi River Valley was learning how to heal his patients in a safe, new way. By 1895, Dr. Daniel David Palmer was convinced that the source of most disease was inflammation. He thought that inflammation was friction and heat caused when parts of the body became displaced and rubbed against each other. With careful, gentle fingers, Dr. D.D. Palmer would find his patient’s source of inflammation. He would then manually adjust those parts (known as “manipulation”), attempting to reduce friction and prevent the development of inflamed tissue.

Dr. Palmer’s first official patient to this new technique was Harvey Lillard, a janitor from Palmer’s own medical facility. Lillard had been deaf for 17 years, but incidentally had also suffered a back injury at the time he lost his hearing. After an adjustment to his spine, Harvey Lillard began to hear again.
